12/27/23 I received an e-mail from Amazon Prime. If you are a subscriber, you likely did too. The note lets subscribers know that starting 1/29/24 Amazon Prime Video will include advertising.

This reminds me of the idiom that one man's trash is another man's treasure. I know some people will not be happy about the Amazon Prime e-mail. Being in the business of marketing, media, most specifically CTV and streaming I am absolutely thrilled.

The paragraph below is taken directly from the Amazon Prime e-mail.

This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time. We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers. No action is required from you, and there is no change to the current price of your Prime membership. We will also offer a new ad-free option for an additional $2.99 per month* that you can sign up for here.

The streaming space is a high-speed business and it is full speed moving into 2024. I do my research daily and typically I can predict some of the next moves. over the last few years, the two moves that I would not have predicted were Netflix launching their ad-supported tier in November of 2022 and Amazon Prime fully committed to ad-supported streaming on 1/29/24. The only way not to get ads with Amazon Prime is to sign up for their new ad-free tier that will cost an extra.

Here is the new lineup of Premium Streaming Networks all supporting advertising

Amazon prime

Netflix

Disney +

Peacock

Max formerly HBO Max

Hulu

Paramount +

I like Amazon Prime adding advertising. I also think this will add growth to Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST) apps.

#CTV #Streaming #OTT always getting better for viewers and advertisers
