It shouldn't take a hurricane, an emergency, or a crisis for people to come together, help one another, and act with kindness.
I've seen more goodness in people during Florida's back-to-back hurricanes than I have in the last five years.
Despite the chaos at places like Home Depot and grocery stores, people remained civil. Even with long lines, no one cut in, and I witnessed several instances of shoppers offering to let those with just one item, especially for babies or elderly, go ahead.
With stoplights down, traffic was still manageable. People actually stopped at intersections, even without police presence. And for once, I didn’t hear any political arguments—what a breath of fresh air.
My home will be completely gutted. The hurricane claimed many of our cherished photos and personal belongings, but who cares? It didn’t take my family, and it can't erase our memories.
So next time you have a difficult client, a bad day, or feel road rage creeping in, remember: it’s all avoidable. People talk about getting 1% better each day. I hope the recent disasters in Florida, the Carolinas, and up the coast inspire us all to aim for 2% better daily.
