Netflix's inaugural streaming of live NFL games on Christmas Day proved a resounding success, surpassing Peacock's viewership for the recent Miami Dolphins-Kansas City Chiefs playoff game.
This season, stopping Patrick Mahomes and the Chief has seemed almost impossible, just as unstoppable as the rise of streaming and Connected TV (CTV). Netflix’s broadcast drew 24.2 million U.S. viewers—a massive audience that might have been even higher had the games been more competitive.
Unfortunately, the matchups didn’t deliver much suspense. The Baltimore Ravens dominated the Houston Texans in a lopsided 31-2 victory, while the Kansas City Chiefs easily overpowered the Pittsburgh Steelers, winning 29-10.
On the bright side, Netflix successfully navigated the technical challenges of live sports streaming, avoiding any significant buffering or latency issues. This successful debut solidifies Netflix's position in the evolving world of sports broadcasting and further emphasizes the unstoppable rise of streaming and connected television (CTV).
