Listening to a great book, Schmooze by my friend Cody Lowry—an excellent read or listen. When I find something meaningful, I try to write it down or commit it to memory. I'm not finished with the book yet, I know many of Cody's anecdotes will stick with me.
One quote from Schmooze that resonated with me yesterday:
"When everyone thinks alike, then no one is thinking." —General George S. Patton or Walter Lippmann (I am not sure who authored the quote it appears to be attributed to both of them).
This quote underscores the value of diverse perspectives and critical thinking. If everyone agrees on everything, true reflection and independent thought are missing.
I've never wanted to be surrounded by people who simply say "yes" to me. While I don’t consider myself a contrarian, I believe in challenging current thinking and assumptions. I actively push the people I work for and with to consider new perspectives and solutions by providing deep insights, knowledge, and research. Growth and innovation come from questioning the status quo, not blindly following it.
